Too Many People Trying To Cash In With .ME

I'd have to admit that even without any reasonable credentials to back up any .me domain, they still have this enigma surrounding them that they may one cost many times over the amount shell out by the initial owner. I believe it is the first time in history that any TLD has met this much publicity and demand. Domaining is part speculation and part predictive. The popularity of social media nowadays gives some .me domains the oomph that may just fetch it a hefty price one day.

However, I'd have to say that cashing in this early maybe a little too early. Upon a heads-up by one of the commenter here in this blog, I checked out .me domains being auctioned at a popular domain after-market TDNAM and found some ridiculously priced .me domains. I'm listing some and can somebody tell me why these domains should cost $50,000 each?

1. sidneycrosby.me? ( Is this somebody famous I don't know?)
2. videoforfree.me?
3. dinnertheater.me?
4. lubrication.me?

Same things here in the lower 5 figures a pop:
1. wretch.me $45,000?
2. douche.me $30,000?
3. hurtcall.me $35,000?
4. hamid.me $10,000?
5. lady-boy.me $10,000? ( very funny)

I only found one .me domain interesting but I doubt it is fairly priced.
1. prepay.me $49,995? (very good for pre-paid business)

Sydney Crosby is the young captain of an NHL hockey team. Stupid domain. (not to be mean, but it is)

I am just curious on how successful the .me domain will be down the road? I was very happy to get www.computerize.me, it was almost a day after the registration began. I also have nationalize.me and economize.me, Any thoughts on those domains?

Hi Kelsey,

Congrats on landing them 3 .me domains. Right now the future looks exciting for this new TLD. We should see how they will fare out on the search engines in about 6 months or when search engines give their impressions on them.

As it stands, a .me domain rarely will may not have a value one expects or hopes in the future. Except for some really clever and short .me domains, I think most of them will require some form of dev. Domains like insure.me or buy.me or fly.me are such awesome domains they are valuable as they stand. Nobody can argue that.

If you are familiar with factors that after domain valuation, I would have to say that the factors are the same between .com's and .me's.

Right now, it's a sitting game.

Thanks for the comment. Love the domains you got BTW. All the best.

Considering that 1) two thirds of all mobile phone accounts worldwide are prepaid accounts, and 2) the market for prepaid phone services generates global revenues of more than $100 billion a year, a $49k price tag for PREPAY.ME may actually be undervalued. Remember, flowers.mobi went for $200k right after open registration began.

Most of the names on tdnam do appear overpriced, though. I think sellers throw out a number they'd love to have, but will often settle if half of that is offered. Some names are just plain funny (inseminate.me, squish.me).

Regarding .ME's in general, I think the verbs (or nouns used as verbs), LLL and ### will hold the greatest value over time.

I recently started a marketing site http://www.dotmewebsites.com to help promote marketable dot.ME domain names for free, hoping too that dot ME domains with memorable, action-oriented phrases will catch on as marketing slogans.
